THE MISSION STATEMENT

Foliage is a plant magazine based in Chicago that publishes seasonally. Collecting plants is becoming more and more prevalent in people’s lives and is quickly becoming a popular hobby. When COVID-19 struck, our lives and way of living dramatically changed. Being isolated from people you used to see and things you used to do is hard. Plants, being living organisms, also bring a therapeutic aura to many. Mary Cina– founder and designer of Foliage, picked up planting in quarantine. After she moved into her first apartment in Chicago, she started to collect plants and take care of them. She shares her love for plants with her close friends and eventually decides to develop an outlet– a community. She wants to share the healing nature of plants with more people, and that is exactly what she does with the Foliage magazine. Foliage is not only entertaining, but informational. With DIYs, how-to’s, articles, interviews, and more, Foliage teaches plant fanatics everything they need to know about starting and maintaining their plant collection.

THE MAGAZINE

Leveraging both my personal botanical expertise and insights gathered from various online sources, I successfully curated the inaugural edition of a plant magazine. This publication caters to individuals at every stage of their plant journey, offering tips for beginners, those with intermediate comfort levels, and even seasoned plant experts. The process of crafting this magazine served as a valuable lesson in publication design, providing insights into how to infuse my distinct vision into the layout. This endeavor encouraged a more experimental approach, allowing me to push creative boundaries and explore novel design concepts.
